Why Is My AC Leaking Water?

Some water dripping from the outdoor drain is normal. Water dripping inside your room is not.

Blocked drain line. Dust and algae block the drain pipe, so water backs up and spills from the indoor unit.

Dirty filter or coil. Restricted airflow makes the coil freeze, and when the ice melts it overflows the tray.

Poor installation. If the indoor unit is not level or the drain pipe slopes the wrong way, water cannot flow out.

Low refrigerant. A leak can also cause the coil to freeze.

Switch the AC to fan mode for a while to melt any ice, and clean the filter. If it still leaks, a technician needs to clear the drain and check the installation.
